The Green Movement Essay Example for Free
The Green Movement Essay Purpose: The purpose of this lab report is to demonstrate how changes in abiotic factor such as changes in precipitation patterns can influence plant populations. Introduction: During this observation I was observe ring the plant species called Kentucky Blue Grass. In this observation I will show how changes in the weather can affect the population of the grass. I will also explain how this may have some effect on Global Warming as well. Hypothesis: My hypothesis of this lab was that if you have more rain the population of the grass will greatly increase. Along with decent to great weather to help the grass grows and become healthy. Methods: There were three different times that I changed the rainy season to last The first experiment the rainy season lasted 150 days for five years, the next season lasted 100 days for five years and the last rainy season as set to last 50 days for five years. Results: My hypothesis was correct to a certain extent. I would think that the cooler the temperature the better the population but it seems that the warner the weather is when the biggest population occur. Discussion/Analysis: During the first observation I changed the rainy season to last 150 days. When the experiment started the temperature outside was 30 degrees and the population of the grass started at 500,000. As the first year went on the population slowly raised but for the most part stayed the same. When you look at the last days of year three, there seems to be a dramatic low point in the population. While looking at the data when the temperature raises to 42.1 degrees the population went down to 54,748. Going into the fourth year the population made another drastic turn and the population rose to 609,747. Getting close to the end of the fifth year the population changed back to its steady pace of 600,000. In the next observation when the rainy season lasted 100 days there was a little bit of difference but not that much. In the first observation the temperature rose to a maximum of 70 degrees and that lasted just one day and during that day the population was at 820,624. When the season lasted 100 years in the experiment the temperature constantly change with much difference. During the first year the temperature stated at 30.2 degrees and the population was at 500,000. In the middle of that year the temperature rose to 71.3 and the population grew to 821,915.If we look at the end of the third year the population took a drastic fall. The population was steady at first but feel from 824,489 to 3,168. The fourth year seemed to be the year that the temperature rose and feel the most but the population was the most consistent

Ray Ozzies Role at Microsoft
Ray Ozzies Role at Microsoft Introduction Ray Ozzie was the known to play a major role at the lotus notes before he became the Chief Software Architect of the Microsoft team (Microsoft, 2010). In 2005, he aimed to webifyâ⬠Microsoft in order to level up with the wide use of internet and search engines such as Yahoo! and Google. He had to create a management strategy in order to find out the best way to share the information through his colleagues and be able to sum up the ideas on how to maintain the revenues of the company. The case study, Ray Ozzie, Software Strategistâ⬠, relates with the everyday processes, practices and activities that are involved in creating a strategy. Why was the Semiahmoo retreat not successful in creating sustained momentum around the issue of Microsofts core? The March retreat of the companys top 110 or so executives including Bill Gates was not successful because they failed to discuss the key factors about the Microsofts core. It is said that the company relied on selling proprietary software straight to users or to the manufacturers of computer for pre-installation on machines. However, the strategy was being challenged by free open-source software like linux and web- based companies whose software was free off the internet and supported by advertising such as Google or Yahoo!. This seemed to leave the company behind the emerging software that offers free access over the internet and is able to use by the customers directly. The companys processes of reaching the market have had difficulties most especially the shipping of products. Retreat at Semiahmoo was not able to initiate a clear discussion of the things that Microsoft has to do in order to get back to the emerging companies in the Information Technology industry today. They have got breakout sessions in order to brainstorm various strategic issues and it was observed that the people within the company relate to Bill. It appeared to be more of a team building for the executives and the group refused to organise the issues covering the strategy or the issue of the Microsofts core. They argued it was untimely and likely to cause unnecessary apprehension to engage more people as it involves the past strategies. Thus, the momentum from the retreat on Semiahmoo did not have enough space to tackle the said issue. The importance of focus on the processes and practices with regard to the activities of the company is given much attention rather than the issue of sustaining the strategy for selling products in a unique manner (Christensen, 1997). The practice of strategy involves the important components of how the organisation manages its people and links the outcomes from strategising events, activities, meetings and other. In addition to, the focus of the group went to the attraction of the place, perhaps, and the experience to bond with each other. The strategic challenge that Microsoft was facing was not clearly defined as well. The team relied on the past strategy and thought it was irrelevant to review. The retreat ended without accomplishing what was really tasked to do because the team overlooked the criticisms about the past strategies without realising that it is important to be able to figure out what specific changes to focus on or where exactly they should concentrate. Why was Ozzie more successful in creating follow-on action after the Robinswood retreat? After the Semiahmoo retreat, the company had a second retreat because the first attempt to create a strategy for the Microsofts core evaporated. Ozzie took charge of the second retreat and it was successful. Although Ozzie have not tried working intimately with the team, he took his chance on delivering and defining the strategic challenge that the company was facing. The retreat was held as Robinswood house where in it appeared to be substandard unlike the Semiahmoo retreat. Ozzie provided a 51- page memo beforehand that describes his diagnosis of the strategic challenge facing Microsoft. He detailed out the challenges for the company through his friendly mood and did not confront anyone with the past mistakes of the company. He opened up a discussion through an invigorating exercise about the unfavourable things happening in the present technical and organisational strategy of the company (Fried, 2009). Thus, it gave the team a chance to speak up and raise the issues with regard to the mistakes of the company on its operations most especially the issues that they have to solve most especially the fluctuating revenues of Microsoft. The meeting resulted on a more intense discussion with the team about the future strategies that could benefit the organisation. A progress was made although a good deal of controversy was still present. Furthermore, Ozzie put a highlight on the changing environment and the importance of service to the clients. The communications technologies have drastically developed into a more convenient form. In the modern world, the people pay much attention to the interaction with the company and its products and services and how they are able to use in a simple way. The businesses are directly reaching the customers with lower costs and provide a great service. Technology companies are now practicing ways to sell the products without the hassle of shipping and most importantly with lower costs such as downloading the application directly from the website supported by advertisements and the like. As Ozzie have seen, Microsoft is not developing a strategy on how to compete within the industry most especially the strategy of advertising- supported services and software over the internet. The strategy depicts innovation and fives the foundation for the web developers to improve and develop the services to the customers. Microsoft has to embrace this kind of business strategy in order to come up with a more practical way to reach and interact with the market and benefit the company with remarkable revenue. The company have to reflect on its past mistakes and relate to the present environment to be able to emerge with what is going in the market. The leadership responsibilities, strengths and weaknesses of the company should be discussed in a genial manner so an immediate response from the team could result to a better strategy to solve the challenges. The business might be at risk if the team fails to handle the dilemma accordingly and did not maintain an open communication (Levy, 2008). Comment on Ozzies communications strategy with regard to the Internet Services Disruption. The communication strategy of Ozzie is indeed a good way to reach the executive staff and he explained clearly what his goals are for the company. According to the memo, he has a lot of positive reasons to innovate more with regard to the strategic challenge that the company is facing. He delivered the memo very well such as stating that the leaders understand the efficiency of eradicating the hindrances on developing products. Reorganisation is considered to be an important step for improving the alertness of the company (Ozzie, 2005). He maintained a positive outlook on the past strategy of the company although it prevailed to put the business at risk. He still considered past strategies to start the development of the company on what he aims on his recent strategies. It is a very good way to motivate the organisation to move on to the next stage and be able to encourage them to participate and work accordingly. His idea of differentiating the strategy from the past developments of the company made it significant to understand the whole point. He immediately perceived the feedbacks of the readers so he addressed, in advanced, the possible doubts of the readers of his memo. Ozzie continues to innovate as he mentioned a continuous change every five years for the company to cope with the changing environment of the market considering that technology is growing rapidly. His focus on the recent strategic issues gives the memo a clearer objective to increase the motivation for the team to work well on creating new products and continuously creating a solution to the challenges. Ozzie is catered to the transformation of the company into a more user-friendly and interactive to reach the customers, partners and other for bigger opportunities (Ozzie, 2005). Thus, Ozzies communication strategy promotes a vision and a set of well- defined goals and objective that makes a dependable leader to integrate the varied activities and ideas of the whole team. Conclusion Ray Ozzie worked well on the creation of new strategies for the Microsoft such as going live and being more interactive with its users. Advertising-supported software and other internet-based applications are emerging in the market and are doing well with its revenues. The techniques of internet advertising have drastically affected by the innovations on technology. The use of broadband is considered to be a blanket for the market starting from the purchase of the computer up to the installation of its software and applications. Hence, it calls for an extensive innovation for Microsoft to comprehend with the use of the World Wide Web. The Most Dangerous Game :: Essays Papers
The Most Dangerous Game The short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell is about the hunter and the hunted but later in the story it becomes ironic because it turns into a game were the hunter becomes the hunted. It turns into a chase of competition and of survival. Two sailors Rainsford and his partner Whitney sailed in to the darkness of the of sea. Their purpose was to hunt, they called it the " greatest sport". They were hunters and headed to the Amazon to hunt vicious animals such as Jaguars, and tigers. They sailed to an island called "Ship-Trap Island". Sailors feared this island and had curious dread of such a scarry place. The sky was filled with darkness when suddently he heard Three gun shots that were fired, and heard them again and again. Then he heard a scream while smoking a pipe when suddently the pipe fell and as he tried to reach for it he whent down into the sea were the waves swallowed his screams. Nobody could have heard him as the ocean swallowed his screams and the only cha nce of survival was to swim. Rainsford swam towards the screams and ended up in the Island. He walked on the shoreline and later found a place that looked like a mansion. There he met General Zaroff who bought the island to hunt. He was indeed a sporstman who invented a new sensation of the hunting game. His game was to train those men who's ships were wrecked and ended up in that island, and then provide them with food and a knife for three days. Once they were trained they were led out into the island as a head start while Zaroff chase after them and tried to hunt them down. If They survived during those three days they had won the game and they were let free but in the other case if they were found they were killed. Zaroff never lost the game so if one of the men being hunted was about to survive he would release the hounds to chased after them. Rainsford rested and the next morning had a dispute with Zaroff and told him that this hunting style was to brutal. In this argument Zaroff got mad and at this point in the story Raisford became the hunted. He was let loose into the island were he was to prepare himself for the
Free Macbeth Essays: The Murder of King Duncan :: Macbeth essays
The Murder of King Duncan in Macbethà à à Many factors were involved in Macbeth's decision to kill King Duncan. He had pressure from his wife, he had an idea in his head, given to him by the three witches, and he was extremely ambitious. All of these factors contributed to his demise in the end and his decision to murder his king. à This whole situation comes about because of three witches who wanted to cause trouble for Macbeth. They knew all along what would happen to him in the end. Macbeth is ambitious and the witches played upon that by promising Macbeth great things, such as becoming the king of Scotland, and Thane of Cawdor. Immediately after he talks with the witches, he is by chance entitled, Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth now believes in the witchesââ¬â¢ words and honestly believes that the crown of Scotland will fall upon him by natural means. This idea goes awry when Duncan names Malcom his heir. Macbeth then, still believing in the witches, goes on with his plan to murder Duncan. à Lady Macbeth is a very loving wife to Macbeth and she wants to do anything she can for him to achieve his goals. She just takes it a little too far, and she puts too much pressure on Macbeth to commit crimes that he is not sure he wants to do. After Macbeth sends her a letter about the witchesââ¬â¢ premonitions, Lady Macbeth is no longer the sweet innocent lady we expect her to be. She turns into a person who is just as ambitious as her husband and she wants to do whatever it takes to help him get Duncan out of the way. She even goes to the point of calling Macbeth a coward, and mocking his bravery when he fails to complete the job. She is even willing to do it herself (plant the bloody knife with the guard). Lady Macbeth is constantly putting the pressure on Macbeth to do things that he is not sure about. She almost turns into a bully who dares Macbeth to go out and do evil things. She even says in a soliloquy that she wants to be released of all her morals and values so that she can help him commit these crimes. à Finally, we have to look at the tragic flaw of the hero himself.

bell hooks and gangsta rap Essay examples -- Snoop Dogg sexism misogy
In reading bell hooksââ¬â¢ opinion about sexism and misogyny I had to admit to myself that I had no idea what she meant by sexism and misogyny. So, to accurately know what she was referring to, I looked them up on the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary. For the word sexism, I found there were two meanings that support hooksââ¬â¢ ideas: 1: prejudice or discrimination based on sex; especially: discrimination against women and 2: behavior, conditions, or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on sex. The word misogyny, according to Merriam-Webster, is: a hatred of women. With these definitions, I feel that both words with their meanings truly expose what bell hooks is telling us what Americans, and it seems she talks about the black male Americans, think of the black female culture. à à à à à In ââ¬ËGangsta Cultureâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬â¢ bell hooks tells us that the ââ¬Ëpatriarchal ways of thinkingâ⬠¦are glorified in gangsta rapââ¬â¢ (116) and I think sheââ¬â¢s right. Although I do not think she is right in all that she says in this narrative. She also says that ââ¬Ëyoung black males are forced to take the heat for encouraging via their music the hatred of and violence against womenâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬â¢ (116), and this I do not believe it completely true. She believes that the black men of America have taken themselves to a new degree in order to make themselves ââ¬Ëhigherââ¬â¢ than black women ââ¬â she believes that the black men should be equal to the black women and that the men should believe that as well. She talks about Calvin Broadus a.k.a. Snoop Doggy Dog (which he later changed to the current title ââ¬ËSnoop Doggââ¬â¢) and his album Doggystyle. She tells us that the cover is degrading toward black women, which it is, but n ot just to black women, to all women. bell hooks shows us that black male sexism is real and it is in Americaââ¬â¢s music. She is correct, but it is not just against the white people of America. Snoop Doggââ¬â¢s album is degrading toward the girl whose buttââ¬â¢s out of the doghouse, but it was her choice for one; and for two, itââ¬â¢s not just black women heââ¬â¢s degrading on the cover. hooks is just placing blame on Snoopââ¬â¢s cover, but she doesnââ¬â¢t say much about his music, this is where the music of the gangsta culture comes to play. In 1993, Snoop ââ¬ËDoggyââ¬â¢ Dogg put out an album entitled Doggystyle, and its front portrait is describing a form of male dominance toward the woman society and one of the dogââ¬â¢s is say... ... doesnââ¬â¢t? Dr. Dre, Eminem, Fifty Centâ⬠¦all at some point have referred to women as objects instead of WOMEN, but why single out just Snoop Dogg? Has he done something even worse than Eminem calling his own mother a whore? Itââ¬â¢s just the music, they are just notes on a page and words from mouths. I feel bell hooks needs to do more digging because Eminem speaks worse of women than Snoop Dogg does, even though Snoop has the pictures and Eminem just has words. bell hooks closes her essay by saying, ââ¬Å"If black men are betraying us through acts of male violence, we save ourselves and the race by resisting.â⬠(123) I believe in what she is saying, but she is one sided. Maybe she is just saying that we, as women, would rather be called just ââ¬Ëgirlsââ¬â¢, ââ¬Ëwomenââ¬â¢ or even ââ¬Ëchickaââ¬â¢, but that is every woman, not just the black women. But, did she even think about the girls (black and white) that like to be paraded around like giraffes at a circus? Did she realize that she is just one person, as am I, and she canââ¬â¢t change the world she lived in? The world is cruel and evil and some of the men in it are just as nasty and immoral, but itââ¬â¢s our choice whether to live in the worldâ⬠¦or in the circus.

Great Gatsby Essay
In the beginning of Fitzgeraldââ¬â¢s The Great Gatsby, Nick doesnââ¬â¢t care too much for Gatsby, but later Nick begins to like Gatsby, and by the end, Nick and Gatsby become best friends. It is sort of weird how their relationship develops, and the reason it develops. Nick and Gatsby seem to be two totally different people, but I guess opposites attract. In the beginning of Fitzgeraldââ¬â¢s The Great Gatsby, Nick doesnââ¬â¢t care too much for Gatsby. Nick thinks that Gatsby is kind of odd, and mysterious. For example, on page 20, Nick says ââ¬Å"he gave a sudden intimation that he was content to be aloneâ⬠. That is kind of weird because if he wanted to be alone, why does he throw huge parties. Also Gatsby was just standing there with his arm extended looking at a light, if that isnââ¬â¢t weird than what is. This one encounter does not drive Nick away from getting to know Gatsby. Later in Fitzgeraldââ¬â¢s The Great Gatsby, Nick begins to like Gatsby. Later on when Nick meets Gatsby at a party he describes his smile. The way Nick described it was not normal he said ââ¬Å"It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. â⬠(48) You donââ¬â¢t describe a smile that way unless you like that person, he could have just said he had a nice smile. After that Gatsby and Nick talked a lot more and hung out a lot more after that party, I guess you could say this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. By the end of Fitzgeraldââ¬â¢s The Great Gatsby, Nick and Gatsby became best friends. Towards the end Nick and Gatsby were always together. They went to lunch together, rode in Gatsbyââ¬â¢s hydroplane together, and went to the city together. Nick liked Gatsby so much he said ââ¬Å"Theyââ¬â¢re a rotten crowd,â⬠I shouted across the lawn. ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re worth the whole damn bunch put together. â⬠(154) Nick also tells Gatsbyââ¬â¢s father that ââ¬Å"We were close friends. â⬠(168) after Gatsby had died. At Gatsbyââ¬â¢s funeral no one was their but Nick this showed that Gatsby had no other friends except for Nick. Even though Nick doesnââ¬â¢t seem to like Gatsby at the beginning the two of them end up as best friends. Even after Gatsby lies to Nick and then confesses the truth Nick was still friends with Gatsby.

Foundations of Human Services Worksheet Essay
1. Identify the four themes of human services. The four major themes of human services according to the chapter are one problem in living human beings not being able to meet their own needs all the time. Second the growth number of problems in modern world helps with people not able to get help from family or the community. Third self-sufficiency giving people the tools needed to provide for themselves. And last, social care is assisting clients in meeting their social needs, with the focus on those who cannot care for themselves, social control in who receives services and under what conditions they receive them and rehabilitation is the task of returning an individual to a prior level of functioning. 2. Identify professional disciplines that influence human services. Sociology examines ways in which human societies influence the people who live in them. Sociology helps the human service field by trying to understand the differences within human culture. Also to understand the surroundings of life affect their living, like family structure, roles within the family, gender, race, and poverty. Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior. It embraces the affects of human functions of the brain from childhood to old age. And for Anthropology is the study of culture, physical, and society. 3. How have societal viewpoints concerning mental illness or health influenced human services over the past three centuries? The societal view point in the beginning was people who were mentally ill were treated as if they were physically ill. In hospitals and they lived in atrocious conditions and were treated with brutality and cruelty; customary treatment methods was bleeding, restraint, and cold showers. Then occupational therapy, amusements, and exercise were introduced. Over the years the bad treatment in hospitals was closed and some stopped and centers was open in patient out patient, and groups homes now help with the treatment of mental illness. It is not treated as one illness for everyone but as an illness for just that person. 4. How have societal viewpoints concerning child welfare influenced human services over the past three centuries? Societal viewpoints went institutions multiplying, as the public demanded the removal of children from almshouses. Unfortunately, juvenile institutions were not always an improvement, and overcrowded conditions and poor care prompted the establishment of a system that placed children in private homes. To having foster parents and rules of child care in place that must be followed. There are now services in place for children that max out of the system to get help with food, education, and housing. Families can now get child care, the Earned Income Tax Credit, food stamps, and Medicaid to help take care of their children. 5. How have societal viewpoints concerning incarceration and probation influenced human services over the past three centuries? According to the chapter the probation system we have today started back in 1813. Things have been added to it along the way, like meeting with the prisoners before they are set free into the world to see if they have somewhere to go and if they need help with housing, food and employment. Today probation is given by a judge and can be also given after serving time in prison. There are probation officers in place to make sure that they are following the laws, getting help to get off of probation and live in the real world. 6. Explain how political and legislative changes have affected client care. Over the time political and legislation have changed laws. To make things work for the people and the government. Rules and guidelines put in place for human service workers to follow to help clients with their needs. Also with guidelines and rules for clients to have to follow so they can receive government assistance. The rules are still changing today due to the amount of need and the limited funds available. Guidelines are changing who can qualify for help and who donââ¬â¢t. Also the amount of children you can claim. Changes will always change for good and bad as time go on until legislation finds what works for all equally.
